These cheezy fun songs made us feel free and different compared to the other teen angst bands out there during the mid-2000s. Strange, and mysterious was the style of the band as they released their first album back in 2005 with their first real popular single, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.”įollowing Panic at the Disco’s popularity of the song and many changes in direction for the band, the next big single framed many 1960s bands like the Beatles was the song “Nine in the Afternoon.” Not only was the lyrics of theses songs tongue and cheek, but the music videos were iconic: “I Write Sins” brought the reality to an estranged marriage that was about to be built on lies as the lyrics state, “the groom’s bride is a whore.” With “Nine in the Afternoon”, there was the Beatles color scheme and feel as the play on words of it being nine in the afternoon and everyone is still in their pajamas. The band founded back in 2004 has gone through many changed over the past 13 years, but the one thing has remained is the vocals of Brandon Urie, the only remaining founding member.
